Subclass 491 - Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa

Tasmanian Business Operator Pathway (2022-23)

To be considered for this pathway you must meet all the criteria below.

You may also need to possess one or more of the priority attributes listed for this pathway (refer to the table below).

  • You must demonstrate that you have established and operated a business (solely owned or co-owned with spouse) in Tasmania for at least 12 months
  • Your business must have provided a personal taxable income to you of at least 85 percent of the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (i.e. currently $45 815)
  • You must show that you have an understanding of the responsibilities and requirements around treating employees fairly by completing key units on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s online learning centre
  • Owners of massage therapy businesses must have a related skills assessment and the business must be in a hospital, aged or disability care setting or an allied healthcare setting such as a physiotherapy clinic
  • Subcontracting business owners are not eligible for consideration in this pathway.

*If you began operating your business before 15 April 2022 you must have operated your business for at least 6 months immediately prior to your application

491 Tasmanian Business Operator Pathway priority attributes
GOLD
Working in a critical role (at least past 3 months)
GREEN
Invested over $200 000 in current business operation
Business operation generated over $ 500 000 in past year
Business employs over 10 Australian citizens, permanent or provisional visa holders
ORANGE
Qualification related to current business activities (minimum Certificate III, not including online courses or qualifications gained on the basis of Recognition of Prior Learning)
Skills assessment related to current business activities
Operated business in Tasmania for more than 18 consecutive months
At least 3 full time employees who are Australian citizens or permanent residents or provisional visa holders
Resided in Tasmania for more than 2 years
Earnings from business higher than average Australian earnings
Proficient / Superior English (or passport country exemption)
Dependant employed in skilled role (ANZSCO 1-3) or running a business for past 6 months
Dependant completed Tasmanian study - (minimum AQF 6)
Dependant has lived in Tasmania for at least 6 months
Close family living in Tasmania
