CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

Build your career in Early Childhood Education and Care and gain the specialized skills and knowledge you need to work as an Educator.

This qualification is suitable for people who are interested in progressing their career in the Early Childhood Education and Care setting and wish to gain the knowledge and skills required to design and implement curriculum in Early Childhood Education and Care services.

Our experienced teachers will teach you to work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard to implement the approved learning framework and support children’s wellbeing, learning and overall development. You’ll learn how to plan and implement programs that support children to learn through play in a safe and supported environment, as well as ensuring the health and safety of children in your care, and how to provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting.

As part of the course, you’ll also learn how to identify and respond to children and young people at risk, develop cultural competence and promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety, as well as how to work legally and ethically within the industry.

You’ll also learn how to establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behavior and implement inclusion strategies for all children, as well as foster the holistic development and wellbeing of children in your care. As part of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in 240 hours (minimum) work placement in a regulated early childhood education and care environment. You will get hands-on experience in using an approved learning framework to guide your practice, and the chance to work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for their children.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to seek employment as an Educator in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care setting, including long day care, outside school hours care, family day care or in-home care. You will also be prepared for roles in which you are expected to take on responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff and may enable you to work as a room leader or in a management role in an early childhood education and care setting. You will also be well-placed to build on your skills and knowledge and undertake further study at university and undertake a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).

Assessments allow us to confirm that you can perform tasks to the standard required in the workplace, and that you can meet all of the requirements of your course.

While studying at TasTAFE, you may be assessed in a number of different ways. Some common assessment methods include:

completing workplace documents

observations on the job and/or in a simulated assessment environment

quizzes/multiple choice tests

research projects

tests – written or practical

verbal questioning

work samples

written assignments or short answers.
